Even though music overwhelms a large portion in my life, I find it hard to put the right words together into these things called 'sentences' to describe the harmonious noise that permeates the airwaves around us.

Explosions in the Sky | Live & In Person

The other night I was trying to remember who it was, or how it came to be that the Austin, Texas band Explosions in the Sky came to grace my ears... it was sometime in 2004 and I was living in northern California. Alas, I fell in love...

Flash forward to March of 2009 one afternoon, I see a notice that tickets go on sale in 10 minutes for their upcoming concert in Los Angeles.... PURCHASED IN THE OPENING MOMENTS.

Flash forward 3 more months as the tickets just sit on my shelf waiting to allow entree to an amazing evening of melodic noise that will be like no other.

Flash forward to you reading this post now....... this past weekend I got to finally attend the June 27th Explosions in the Sky concert at The Palladium with my girlfriend Georgette. It was everything and more... the sound was so full and powerful, the songs were magnificent & breathtaking, plus four very grateful bands members that appeared ecstatic to see a sold out crowd in a large venue. The music took over that night and will never be forgotten.

Summer has hit LA

With Father's Day behind us, Summer has taken Los Angeles by storm... or more of a dry smoggy preheat. I found myself in shorts and t-shirt at 7am today... not to shabby. This past week I spent Father's Day at the Pasadena Chalk Festival with none other than my Father, Mom and Georgette. It was a magnificent sea of colorful chalk and people with over 200 entries strewn about the sidewalk in 8x8 squares. Below are a couple of my favorites (click on the pics to enlarge, amazing detail)

The truth was really upon me that Summer had arrived when Collin (@theEasyShip) and I found ourselves atop a Reseda bluff in Topanga State Park ready to push off with a dirt board under our feet and sweating our asses off in full gear. Alas, our christening runs went smooth as possible with no injuries & GREAT TIMES. Some footage coming soon...

Lastly, Friday nigth was spent grooving to Balance & the Traveling Sounds at the Knitting Factory! SOULHIPJAFUNK streaming from the amplifiers, bellowing out of the sax, tearing down the roof.

The Mars Volta Live - Ventura, CA 6.09.09

This past Tuesday evening, June 9th 2009, I had the pleasure of attending quite the musical event.
But there was more in the air this particular night than just (insert amazing musical description).
This music event in particular was special for many reasons.

The fact that my dear friend Andrew Lauerman(TheDudeAbides|he's here) came of age on this particular evening, as we all do once a year. For a celebration though, what better way then to have an eight person adventure out into the Ventura night, in wait for a musical frenzy of sounds.

In the past few months I have been attending quite a few concerts... and for my own enjoyment I have been recording them from where I am at in the audience. These records are not on par with any live audio mixer by any means, but still enjoyable.

This Mars Volta concert was the most intimate experience of the other four times I have attended their performances. It truly was a unique experience to hear great classics as well many new songs off their upcoming, Octahedron. My favorite is hear all the jam portions of their songs... in particular the last 5 mins of
their closing number is a mean jam build with Cedric singing lyrics to 'Bullet' by The Misfits.

Ode to the Sea

Let me tell you about one of the best mornings I have had in a long time... I have actually been meaning to post on this subject for some time now but have just been lagging. A good friend of ours that hails from the West Side, labeled with the name Jon has quite the summer job working for a boat rental company... that allows for us to take a little advantage of.

Jon took Collin and I for a boat ride out in to the Pacific via the Marina Del Ray hardbor and showed us a great time. It had been quite some time since I had been out in a motor boat... it took me back to when I was seven & eight years old and my Grandparents owned a boat that we took trips to many different lakes... I'll never forget the time we spent in Jackson Hole, Wyoming on the lake. I haven't found anywhere in the world that compares...

Back to our great morning off the coast. We traveled up the coast to a point just off Malibu and then slowly made our way south past the SM Pier and eventually ending up parked off shore watching planes take off from LAX out over the ocean... all in all it was a a great morning doing something new and different in Los Angeles.

but seriously, no worries.

This past weekend I spent a night and morning in San Diego to see a heart specialist... needed to take a look into my health. Everything checked out ok in the end, turns out I'm abnormaly normally unique. But, if you want to take a look inside me check out this video I took of my echocardiograph below! (what is echocardiograph?)

*In the video you will see a real time image of my heart being while the video is being filmed. Displayed upside down on the screen, the bottom portion of my heart is shown on the top of the screen with the larger of my heart on the bottom of the screen & two main artierys running vertically on both sides. Then with each heart beat you can see two valves open and close to allow blood in.

America's Past Time... Unfortunately.

First of all, Happy Birthday to Virginia!

Good times all around with many friends. Though not being a fan of baseball to any degree, going to the games in person is truely a good time. This was my second Dodger game and it truely is a unique expereince going with some really dedicate fans... and by that I mean shouting, taunting and throwing food like no other sporting events I have been to. Alas, it was all in good fun and we all had a wonderful time. Here are a couple moments captured through the night.

It has been far to long since a post and that needs to end. It seems that after I graduated I became less diligent at updating and that is a shame... so let's get the show back on the road.

This past weekend I had the pleasure of spending a day with my good friend Kristen who was down in LA from her home in San Francisco. Being an art history major and working towards a masters it was only appropriate we go to one of my personal favorites in LA, the Getty! Besides them raising the price on parking it was a great afternoon. It is always the most interesting time going with Kristen to b/c she knows SOOO much about the history and little nuances of the paintings... even the myths behind all the Gods interactions. I got educated in the life of Vulcan and the love affairs of Venus...


After the musuem we headed for 3rd St Promenade and had a couple drinks plus a little shopping to round out the day. Definetely a good Friday... hopefully we get to see each other again soon.
